If you can afford it, cable is great. But for everyday kinds of things, DSL is pretty close in speed, so you can save a little bit of $$ by going that way. One other consideration: are you going to get cable TV? Some ISPs give you a nice break on cable internet IF you sub to their cable tv. If you don't, they add on a surcharge that makes the cost of internet alone almost as much as internet + cable tv. We have a philosophical problem with cable tv, so for us, DSL is a MAJOR cost savings, since Comcast serves our area and is one of those cable companies that bundles it or raises the price if you just want internet.
