Default cable or DSL

I'm considering switching to DSL, we have stable phone service so I'm hoping that is an indication of the service I will receive from DSL. I currently have Charter Cable, which is frequently out. This in extremely inconvenient from a personal and professional basis since if I don't have broadband, I have to go to the office (I am able to work from home). I'm basing a campaign in Hoover to drop the Charter group and find another provider

On my most recent 4 day Broadband outage, Charter allowed me a $6.83 credit, which is guess is fair on the $42.99 monthly bill for Broadband. But I feel I deserve several thousand for the 3.0 hours I spent on the phone talking with four 'technicians' and being forced to give the last four of my ssn, my account number was not acceptable, in order to receive the credit. In this case, it was due to a server being out, Charter knew when it went down, and they should have known when it was back in service.

I feel I should receive the credit for the time they knew the service was down without having to go through the Charter circle of Hades to get the credit.
