I had a router that was 3 yrs old, the Linksys WRT54G router. It finally went toast on me, so I bought a brand new NetGear Wireless-N Gigabit router. I had to put my Speed Stream 5100 modem in bridge mode again, so that I could use my router so that it could properly re-route new dynamic IPs.
That's working and all but, I'm getting a new IP every 15-25 mins vs. when I had my linksys, it would hold a steady IP for about 1-3 days. So my question is, do dynamic IPs typically change this fast? Was the old linksys router lagging in my favor? |

From what I've experienced, my IP only changes when I power off and then power on my modem, so I think you're experiencing something irregular.

I would say your computer is disconnecting from the network a lot so the modem thinks its a newcomputer. I noticed that if I reboot my modem/router and/or computer, that I will get a new IP but only then, so I try not to.

it's only refreshing the ip address available in the dynamic ip address pool that at&t has. or so i think. that is normal, i hope so, because that's the same thing that my linksys does.
