help with modem

i have yahoo basic and using the speedstream 5100 but in case of it finally breaking down i got the new mortorola 2210 modem. i am not doing wireless .i have no router. i am trying to get into the motorola 2210 page at 192.168.1.254 to hopefully configure it. but i cannot get to thepage. it keeps timing out. and it doesnt connect to internet so i am back with the 5100(just to try i tried go to the 192 address with the 5100 and i cant either.
can someone offer advice ..can you connect to 192. thanks

hi, try checking your ip address, if your ip address is 169.xxx.xxx.xxx (this is an invalid ip address), to fix this, try releasing and renewing your ip address in the command prompt by typing ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew. If this still doesnt solve the problem you might have to hard reset your modem. to do a hard reset, press a pen on the reset button at the back of your modem for about 5 seconds.
Note: Holding it for too long will fry the modem's firmware
