Default Installation problems on Windows Vista

Hi all,

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium installed. I share internet connection in my home with 2 computers (3 with the new laptop), and the other 2 work fine. However, whenever I plug in my modem to the Dell laptop the Broadband Link light on the 2wire HomePortal blinks orange and eventually turns red. If I unplug the modem from the Vista laptop everything's fine and the light goes back to green.

I'm also having problems installing the SBC Yahoo! DSL software that comes on the CD I got when I first setup DSL in my home 3-4 years ago. Here's exactly what happens when I put the installation CD in the drive:

Here's exactly what happens when I put in the installatin CD:

1. Installer pops up, everything is fine
2. I go through the first couple steps with no problems (just Next, or I agree options)
3. It asks me if this is the first computer to connect to home network; I answer No because my XP laptop upstairs is the first)
4. Go through next couple of steps and it installs
5. Waits while its "Copying Program Files..."
6. When it finishes copying a message from Windows Vista says "TCP/IP Configuration Utility has stopped working." and I have to click "close program."
7. The installer keeps going however, and at the end it makes me shut down and continue the installation on restart.
8. Once the computer restarts, another error message from Windows saying "WebWorks MFC application has stopped working." I assume this is the installer.

My question is why does this happen? I know somebody who also recently bought a Vista laptop and has SBC Yahoo DSL, but his install went smoothly. Getting a bit frustrated that it won't install on my latop.

You're not required to have that software installed on your computer to use the internet connection. The CD only has random SBC software, such was a custom browser, which slows down your computer.
