Need some serious help

I use SBC global and my antivirus and spyware and all of that are all connected to it. It did some kind of update today and totally screwed up my computer and now I have no antivirus or anything. It's telling me in order to install the new antivirus, I have to uninstall the old one.

Norton™ Security Online not available until you uninstall Norton Internet Security 2006 (Symantec Corporation).

I did what it said, went to add/remove programs and everytime I tried to uninstall it, it said:

Setup has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I did a system restore back to when I know the antivirus worked and it still is messed up. I went to the protection center, turned the antivirus on, and it keeps turning it's self back off and says "Update Failed".

I dont know what to do here, I need my antivirus software and spyware. Any help would be much appreciated.
