I have DSL service, and live in Broward County, FL.
Two days ago, I began to experience interruptions in the DSL service. The DSL light on the modem blinks, and I cannot open web pages, then in approximatly 30 seconds, it's a solid light again. It so happens that it was raining at the time of these interruptions. I am asking whether anyone else has a similar experience? Can I expect this intermittent service for the next 6 months of rainy season? I only moved here 6 months ago, and had DSL service in Philadelphia prior to this, which was never affected by rain. Thanks for any input. |

A follow up to my earlier post, for those interested.
After 2 unhelpful service calls from software technicians, a Bell South line technician finally admitted that the rain/no DSL service situation is an ongoing network problem, and BellSouth will be unable to guarantee DSL service during rain events. I have since cancelled my ATT/BellSouth DSL service. |

Wow,
I thought that most operators have certain guarantees when it came to quality of service. Rain should not influence the performance nor quality of the signals. I have had a number of different operators, and never had this problem before. Is this a problem a local problem, as the equipment is not protected enough? |

Gizmo, thanks for the reply to my post.
The technician was clear that the problem was not isolated to my residence, but he did not indicate whether the problem exitsts in all of Bell South's network, or just in my local community. As far as a service guarantee goes, I got a call from the corporate vice-president's office in Atlanta, in response to a letter I wrote, offering to credit my bill for the times my service was out. but that is not exactly a service guarantee. I've been using Comcast as an ISP since I cancelled the Bell South service, and it has been generally good, with only two outages in two months, both of which happened on sunny days. I'd be eager to see the names of ISPs in Broward County that you've had perfect service with. |

I have noticed a very similar problem to this except I have thought it had to do with thunder. The first time I noticed this was when it was storming very badly out side and I thought to my self, every time I hear thunder, my Bellsouth 6.0 DSL goes out for about 1 to 5 mins. I didn’t think much about it the first storm but 2 days later when it started storming again, I really started watching and testing. It was true, every time it thundered, I would loose connection for a few minutes, it was like clock work.
I have been with Bellsouth for over 5 years and have had NO problems in that 5 years but it seems like sense ATT moved in, my service has been acting funny. I live in Atlanta Ga. A Side Note: I had Charter cable internet before Bellsouth and it is operated by ATT. I had nothing but problems with Charter for 4 straight months and every time I would call charter, they would blame it on ATT. That is why I went with Bellsouth. Now ATT owns Bellsouth and the problems are starting again.
