Default VOIP modem Arris TM502G & Befsr41 V1 = slower downloads

Here's the deal..my previous cable modem and the Befsr41 V1 linksys router with a 10 meg input, worked just fine ( about 9 mb or so ). I subscribed for internet telephone service..the tech installed the Arris TM502G Touchstone modem to my router..then my downloads decreased to around 5.7 mb. He tried cable changes..resets..reboots..calling his boss..you name it he did it..nothing helped. He connected from the TM502G straight to my computer..the 9 mb speed resumed..uh oh..WTF over. Is there a guru out there with a fix for this situation ?

My Linksys has the latest software found on the linksys site for it installed..it has served me well for 5 years or so. I would prefer to have my 2 computers behind a nat router. I have access to a 4 port 10/100 hub, but if I use it instead of the router, I will lose nat. Meanwhile my cable TV, internet telephone service..and decreased internet service (5.7 mb ) are working OK. I want my 9 mb download speed..can I have it ? Or what has to be done to rectify this situation ?
