Default does cable length matter

i ran 100 feet of ethernet cable across my house and the internet connection did not work...could this be the problem?

As far as I know, you will get a slightly better connection with a shorter cable. I don't think that 100 feet should halt it altogether though. Try moving your pc much closer and use a shorter cable to test. This will at least may help you rule out the ethernet cable factor is if still isn't working well.
