Default DSL Price Plummets

Good news for DSL customers.
Quote:
WORLDWIDE prices for DSL connections are free falling faster than a team of sky diving elephants who forgot to pack parachutes.

Figures from Point Topic Research (PTR) show that in the second part of the year the average worldwide price for DSL entry-level services fell by 9.3 per cent.

I wonder if those price drops will show up for those of us already subbed to DSL, or if they are just for newbies, to try to entice them into signing up?

Probably they'll just be used to get new sign-ups. They already have us, so why give us a break?

I'm sure they need to reduce the prices to lure customers away from cable internet. If only cable providers would drop their prices too.

You know, I may just have to start considering DSL for the sake of the cost difference. I wish I could test a DSL connection here for a couple months side by side with the cable connection to get an idea what I'd be doing to myself....

The price has yet to change the market in my area, its still a pain in the bum to get anything good from Charter.

Some broadband operators have cut prices by half and others have offered big upgrades in entry-level speeds.

Cable connections have also dropped in price, but not as fast, the report says. Currently a cable connection is on average $4.27 per month more expensive than DSL.

Perhaps more worrying for cable companies though is the price of a fiber-to-the-home subscription in Japan. Some operators offer 100Mbps for $25.90 per month, which is lower than the worldwide average for broadband over cable modem, according to Point Topic.
I wish Japan is near me so I could get that $25.90 per month 100Mbps connection. I'm wondering how much would be the cost of a fiber-to-home subscription.
