Default Cable or DSL?

Which do you prefer more? Do you prefer Cable for the better speed, or DSL for the better price?

In Austin, cable is the better service and the better price. DSL was slow coming to Austin, which is odd considering the large tech presences (Sillicon Hills) - or at least slow coming to residents. RoadRunner almost completely controls the internet market in Austin.

When we first decided to upgrade from dialup, we tried to get DSL. DSL was new to our area, and I believe there were quite a few people signing up for it before they were even prepared to activate the service. All we ended up with was a phone line that was so screwed up we couldn't even make a call. I have no idea what they did to our telephone line, but it was messed up. We'd pick up the phone and hear modems dialing, people talking, everything but a dialtone. We never even actually got as far as having our computer connected. After lots of calls to complain (made from our cellphone or from my parents phone), they finally straightened out the problem with the telephone. Needless to say, we decided to go with cable after that.

Default Cable is faster

Cable is faster than DSL for both uploading and downloading. Also, in my area, the cost of cable internet is comparable to DSL. There is an excellent article on the subject here Cable vs DSL.

I'll take speed over price any day of the week. Besides, I've heard about a lot more problems with DSL than I've ever heard about with cable. So, to me, it really isn't much of a choice. Go with the one thats the most reliable even if it means you might have to spend a couple of dollars more. In the end it's worth it just for the dependability.

I have timewarner rr, but sometimes the service makes me mad as it drops a lot late at night.

However, my friend with dsl absolutely hates dsl.

Cable by far. I have the extra money to spend on it. Cable is so worth it.

We don't have any good DSL service available to us, so cable is the way to go. The dsl in the area is like 5x slower than my cable.

Right now I use Cable, but when I am strapped for money, I go back to 56k. I always have to be careful on my money.

DSL. I've used SBC Yahoo DSL for awhile and it's been good.
