If you can afford it, cable is great. But for everyday kinds of things, DSL is pretty close in speed, so you can save a little bit of $$ by going that way. One other consideration: are you going to get cable TV? Some ISPs give you a nice break on cable internet IF you sub to their cable tv. If you don't, they add on a surcharge that makes the cost of internet alone almost as much as internet + cable tv. We have a philosophical problem with cable tv, so for us, DSL is a MAJOR cost savings, since Comcast serves our area and is one of those cable companies that bundles it or raises the price if you just want internet.

I've had no complaints with my current cable provider. If you have Comcast available to you in your area, I would highly recommend them to anyone. They're the absolute best.
