Default Net Over Powerlines gets FCC Nod

Hooray! Internet for all!
Quote:
Washington, DC (AHN) - The U.S. is a step closer to leaping onto the Internet through electrical outlets.

The Federal Communications Commission reiterated that it intends to allow the use of broadband-over-power-line, or BPL, technology. The FCC adopted New York Governor Pataki's announcement last week that $2.5 million is currently available in grant money towards the building of infrastructure in Internet.

Frank Dzubeck, Industry analyst and president of Communication Network Architects, said the next step for opposing groups was the courts.

He told Wired News, "It's now up to the lobbying efforts and the legal beagles to take up the case."

However, Dzubeck did say that should the FCC be challenged any further, the opposition groups were likely to agree to a compromise due to the strength of the pro-BPL lobby.
