I just got dsl last October. After years and years of dial up, my kids finally talked me into getting dsl. I would thank them for getting me to switch, but then they would just try harder to get me to change my mind about other things.

The hardest part of changing for me was that no one offered it in my area. Finally my local phone company lowered their price to something reasonable.

I switched to broadband two years back. Before that I was on dialup and my internet speed was a crawl. The only reason I stayed with dialup was because someone convinced me that dialup provides you an unlimited package whereas broadband charges extra after a certain volume. If I had known the unlimited option was available with broadband packages as well,I'd have made the switch much sooner.

I've had it for about 4 years now, and whenever I have to use dial-up I want to just rip my hair out!!! I like to multi task, so I usually have something downloading while I'm "surfing". That doesn't work on dial-up!! Not only does it take longer to download, the page loads are incredibly slower (like 1 kbs). Hurray for high speed internet!

I have been "online" since 95'ish. I have went thru:
14.4 modem
28.8 modem
56k

After that I had moved out west and the person I stayed with (til I got my own place) had an equivalent of a T1 running into their place, not sure the specks on it.

Went back to a 56k, uggg need I say painful?
Then Cox Communications for awhile with their DSL, o and their customer service is a POS by the way - case anyone wondered.

Now I am in SC with a 10/1 residential line. I love my interwebberz.

I have been online since the 90's, but I didn't finally get Cable until January 2006. Trust me, all those years on dialup were NOT fun

I had to use dialup again for a few months this year, and trust me...it took some getting used to after using Cable.

I know what you mean about that type of change. Several years ago, I worked for a company that provided tech support for several ISPs. They had a T3. After work I would go home to my 28.8 modem. It was not surprising that I spent very little time on the Internet when I was home.
