Default Wireless?

OKay, after reading this thread, i was wondering... is it easy to secure a wireless network?

Also, what brand is the best, the laptop i'm getting has built in wireless g card... so would getting above a G work well?

I always push Linksys, they're more expensive, but their hardware is more reliable. I've never had problems with Linksys, however Belkin has given me crap before.

Plus, if you're into it you can always hack your linksys firmware

Getting any router above a G would be waste of money if you're getting a built in G card. The higher range ones (MIMO-G and N) do have a higher range, but your card won't have enough power to talk back to it. If you end up buying a new card like that, you can get the better router

Working at Staples, I tended to push the Linksys ones as well. As well as trying to explain what you said about the routers with a built in card.... very frustrating

Also, explaining how having a 108mbps router, doesn't make your internet go 108mbps is a fun one too

Yea, and a basic house probably wouldn't need N... it'd give wireless to the whole block, pretty much.

So the consensus is that LInksys is number 1?

Now what about security?

I just have to jump on the Linksys bandwagon here. We just got a wireless router a few months ago, and it sure is a big improvement over drilling holes and running wires. We'd previously had a Linksys router, so when we went looking for a wireless we didn't even consider any other brand.
