My uncle\'s house has rj-45 ports in every room, with the
modem connecting to a hub in the garage. There is only 1 cable from the modem to the hub, so only the port in the kitchen works (where they\'ve always had a wireless router set up). How can i fix it so every port works? I moved the router out to the garage initially, but the wireless signal was somewhat blocked, and there were only 4 ports on that, so only 4 rooms could be connected. Ideally, they want to be able to have all of the ports working, along with setting up the wireless router from one of those ports. They have a 2nd wireless router(i don't know why) so I thought maybe I could set one up in the garage to split the cable, and the other in the kitchen to set up the wireless, but I didn't know how to change the IP address of the router so it wasn't conflicting(or if that was the problem at all). Thanks for reading this, and thanks for any help. |

Need a little more info to help you with your issue. How many PC's are we talking total? Also, I am a little confused with your setup. You have 1 hub and 2 routers? Or is it just 2 routers?
If you want to add a second router for more ports all you need to do is run a cable from your PC directly into the 2nd router and connect to it by typing 192.168.1.1. Once you are in there I would change the default gateway to be 192.168.2.1. By doing this once you hook your 2nd router into your first router you will be able to speak to both by typing 192.168.1.1 to access the first router and 192.168.2.1. to access the 2nd router. Hope this helps. ![]() -EDIT- Just noticed the original posting date of this so something tells me my response will never been seen. DOH! |
