Don't really pay that much attention to Sat providers. I am aware of Hughes, but I couldn't name another off the top of my head.

Why are you surprised that satelite is still around? Is it not as good as cable or dsl? I really don't know much about satelite, but I'd love to hear more information and opinions on it.

No, it's not as good as cable or dsl. Internet connections are more sensitive then tv connections so satellite internet produces at a much slower rate then cable or dsl. Satellite internet still has it's purposes, but as mentioned previously it's best for only those who can not access cable or dsl at their location or for people constantly traveling.

So, it's something you settle for if you don't have easy access to something better? I'm glad I live in an area where cable is available.

There is an outfit called Wildblue, Hughes, and there is Skyway.
I just got Skyway a few days ago and it has been a breath of fresh air after being stuck on dial up. If you need highspeed and options are scarce you should make these guys your 1st and last call. You just can't come close to the upfront or monthly fees for affordability, but you do have to have a phone line. Those of you that have cable and DSL fighting over you may not be impressed but those of us in outlining areas probably couldn't do better for the bang for our bucks. |
