I've never really known anyone that has satellite internet. How does it compare to a cable connection? Is it a higher speed or about the same? Also, how do they compare price wise?

Sat is worse in just about every scenario. It's pricier and not as fast.

Thanks for the info. We were thinking of trying satellite, now we know to stick with what's always been dependable. We were more or less thinking of satellite because of the new TV. But I like to have multiple services through one provider.

Hughes is lauching a new satellite in August. When the satellite comes online, they are going to be faster than cable and dsl combined with people on the 512 mbps speeds connecting at around 16MBPS. Right now, I am almost as fast as comcast cable in mobile with the 1.5 mbps plan and it runs just as stable with about a $15/ month difference.

I was always under the impression that Sat's were slow and cumbersome. But the technology there as well is improving. It is quite interesting to hear about the new satellite from Hughes, it could be an important step forward.
