Default My review of satellite internet in general.

I truly think that satellite internet is absolutely horrible unless you live up in the mountains where nobody around you has any other wireless devices. A local internet cafe which is now shutdown switched to satellite internet, and promptly had to switch back to T1. The internet was always slow, and the company selling them the internet said that it could be due to interference. Well if the problems interference, then the internet connection will always be slow because the internet cafes in a busy part of North Hollywood. If you or anybody around you uses a cellphone, then connection will be horrible.

I live between city/town/country, I think we are doing okay for now. When it rains though, that is another story.

I can imagine what rain would do to your Internet connection. Satellite can't provide Internet connection any better than it provides TV service. Not to say the TV service is bad, I'm quite happy with my satellite TV service. It's just that when it rains, the service is subject to go out at any time. And I depend more on my Internet connection than I do on my TV.

*sigh* That's so unfortunate. If cable companies don't get some real competition soon, DSL is going to find themselves with more and more of the web customers, as people stop being able to afford the insane price of cable since companies keep jacking it up and up and up with no competition around for any pricing alternatives...

I'm with Mishka. I am disappointed to read this review. I'm extremely tired of Comcast.

I have to use satellite, and it is better than dial-up. However, compared to most cable or DSL services, well, there is no comparison. The main thing that ticks me off is the latency. I can stream and play online games easier on dial-up than on satellite.

Yes,the latency on satellite internet is perhaps their biggest concern. If it doesn't work when it rains ,then I won't have internet for most part of the year.We have satellite connection on one tv.It has better picture quality than cable tv ,but everytime it pours ,the picture disappears. If the satellite internet has similar traits ,I'd rather wait for a more evolved technology to come through.

Any "bad" weather can mess it up.

Gang,
I have DSL for less than a month with wildblue and find it to be absolutely horrible for several reasons and most of which are due to their get rich quick (scammer)policies that the exectutive officials have adopted to milk the populus of their hard earned and usually limited resources. If anyone is considering Satellite internet, I would plan on spending at least 69.00 to 79.00 a month for a mid to upper level package and stick with the top rated companies like hughesnet or something.
