Default Same as an Aircard?

For a while, my husband had an aircard that allowed him to connect to our ISP from anywhere (well, almost anywhere. Every so often, we would be out somewhere where he couldn't.) I don't think this is satellite, but maybe??? Can anyone clarify this for me?

HSMom, I think you are right and they are two different things. The aircard can best be compared to a cell phone, not a sat phone.
