Unfortunantely, they're hands are pretty much tied. From a basic economical stand point, you can't ignore the market in China. Ignoring a market of two billion people would be inane. So you have to play by their rules to get to the market. (Yea, so its only like 125 actual internet users, but its growing).
And if you play by their rules, you get a bad rep from the rest of the world that wants everyone to push internet freedom on everyone, despite that near impossibility of it. Even everyone's favorite search engine got hit hard by their economical strides. While not being forced, and not submitting by will to their censorship would be a great thing, I can't blame Skype. As for the topic, I think Chinese government has a lot of power over any business that wants to take advantage of the Chinese market. Sensurship is one of the biggest tabus in our time, but it is part of daily life in China. Look at Google and Yahoo. When it comes to China, you must play by their rule, but in the end it might tripple your revenues..... |
