Default Doesn't seem very beneficial to me

I was reading up on this. And my understanding is that it's only free if the call is from one skype user to another. Otherwise there is a per minute charge. Then wouldn't it make more sense to just get phone through your cable company so it doesn't matter who you call? Am I missing something here?

Yea, SkypeOut costs money, like a payphone sorta. But all you gotta do is get your friends hooked up with skype and you're good to go.

Cellphones are still easier than skype and land lines IMO.

I don't think I would like the idea of having to talk my friends into using it before it would be worth having. My friends would probably tell me they didn't know anybody else that was using it so they don't want to mess with it. I agree with Sapphire.

Sounds like a major rip off to me. Unless it offers free time like most cell phone companies do it's useless. Even then you would still pay big time for important calls made off the free time.

Its free to call skype to skype though. You only have to pay to call non-skype phones. Its a godsend for online gaming though, cause it works a lot better than most teamspeak servers.

I call people from other forums with Skype, so I find it useful. I never call any landlines though, cause I can use my cell for tat.

I don't know, just not my thing I guess. I think of it in terms of Time Warner charging me an extra fee to call from my phone to my Mom's Comcast phone. But if it works for you, I'm glad the service is available to you.

Apparently it's not a bad service. My 16 year old sister begged my parents to let her get this because all her friends have it. Apparently, some of those friends were people she met online and they were all over the country. My parents saw their phonebill, with all my sister's long distance calls, and decided to let her have skype. It's been the best decision they've ever made. They did make it a rule that she can't use it to call anyone who's not using skype. But she's on the phone all the time, so I guess all her friends really do have it.

I don't have a cell phone, or any type of free long distance service. But I do have family spread across the country and friends across the world. With Skype, I can now talk to everyone. My family and friends had no problem getting Skype after I explained the benefits.

Skype is great for bringing us all closer. And they do have sale times for calls to landlines. You just have to watch the home page for details.
