Is it free?

Is it free to use skype, or do you have to have some sort of subscription to it? I know that I need an active broadband connect (which I have), and some kind of microphone and speaker.

Also, is there some type of directory to where you can see who's on skype and not?

Skype is free if you are calling other people who are members. I'm not sure about a directory. I only ever installed it to talk to specific people who had it already. I don't have it on my system anymore. I really didn't like it much.

From what I hear, the regular Sykpe is free, but they have an updated version - something about calling other places for cheap rates (international) that cost abit like 20 bucks or something. Maybe google it?

Skype is free from user to user, but I am pretty sure you can call non-skype numbers for a certain amount of money per minute.
