Okay, this may be petty, but it really, really irritates me when I call Verizon for tech support because I can't get online, and while I am on hold, after identifying my problem as a connectivity issue, this overly cheerful female voice comes on and announces that many problems can be solved by going to their website. Duh! If I have connectivity issues, I can't exactly get to their website now, can I?

Ha. They just read off a form/list, so I doubt they pay the utmost attention.
I went online through my neighbors wireless to see why mine was out, and she asked me how I was online if my internet was out. As if I had nothing better to do than mess with tech support. |

Sad thing is, it's a pre-recorded thing. You don't speak to a human at Verizon until you go through their whole voice recognition menu system. You'd think if they have the technology to use voice recognition and even solve some problems without ever involving a living, breathing human being, they'd have the technology (and brains) to realize that if you are having connectivity issues, you can't get online help!

I share your feelings here. I long for the days when a real person answered the phone at the compnay you called.

It would also be really helpful if the people who handle tech support spoke American English to custmers calling from the US! Although come to think of it, most of the ones who I have dealt with at Verizon do. They must not have outsourced all their tech support to India yet. Good for them!

I absolutely hate the number menus. "If you're calling from a touch-tone phone press 1 now". "For English, press 1". Then when they actually get to the choices for your problem, you scratch your head and try to figure out which category you fall into. It's a big old pain in the butt. I just wish somebody would pick up the phone and say "Hello?". Would that be cool or what?

I am with all of you. I HATE the number menus, it drives me buggy to listen to all their ads and announcements (especially nonsense ones like the one mentioned at the beginning of this thread), and I would LOVE to talk to a real person who spoke my language well enough that we could really communicate. Every so often, I get that kind of service, and it totally makes my day. But maybe I am just old-fashioned to expect it.

I have two very small children who are constantly making some sort of noise. It can take several minutes just to get past one stupid question on the voice menu. It seems that the uber modern technology can't tell the difference between my voice saying "yes" or "no" and a toddler crying because her big brother took her toy (or whatever miscellaneous drama is going on between the two of them)! I was having a issues not long ago with my phone service, and honestly, it was extremely frustrating because I had to repeat the same questions over and over.
